◆Form and Color◆

  In Narai town almost roofs of houses along the main street incline toward the street. The houses push out their deep eaves along the street.
  The frontage-sides of many houses are covered with the rattices, e.g. the rattice-frames and rattice slide-doors.
  In many cases the ordinary houses except shops have the slide-doors or windows made of the alminium-sash on the frontage-side. But the fine rattices give us the almost same external appearance as the traditional design.

  As the town is a sightseeing place, to attract tourists many shops maintain the old frontage-design espacially for display of commodities, for example the Japan tablewares or the wooden crafts. Some of the shop-houses keep the glass slide-doors of the old style.
  The rows of shop-houses give us an impression that they togehter make the harmonious beauty and calmness because of the adequate unification of the taste as a town.

  Of course that the basic forms of houses are almost same may be the most important factor.
  But in addition to to the common or resemble form of houses, the colors are unified. It is the great factor of the harmony of the town.
  The old body of houses are naturally dark brown or deep brown. And the comparetive new rattices, the pillars or doors are painted in the same/resemble color.

◆Self-Restraint Display◆

  The display and the exhibition of commodities or services avoid being conspicious, then colors of the frames or rattices are deep or dark brown.
  They use tha natural light as much as possible for lighting in the room, then they don't use the surplus artificial light. The dimness in the room is hamonious with the color of the outlook of houses.

  The display of commodities is well restrained. There are no conspicious colors or outstanding points.Such a way of display-exhibition harmonized under the design concept of the town gives the tourist business a high-tone dignity.
  In contemporary Japan where the conspicious displays are prevailing, the self-restraint with high dignity gives visitors the deep confidence and the very good impression.
